Talent Release Form 2

Due to the fact that I have had to change my actress I have reprinted a Talent Release Form for her to sign to inform her of the commitment and conditions that come with involving herself in this project.

Editing Software

I have chosen to use iMovie to edit my music video.

iMovie is a video editing software application sold by Apple Inc. for the Mac and iOS (iPhoneiPadiPad Mini and iPod Touch) which comes readily available on most Apple products.
iMovie can import video and photo files from a hard drive, this then will allow me to edit the photos and video clips and add titles, themes, music, and effects, including basic color correction and video enhancement tools and transitions such as fades and slides.
I have decided that this will be a suitable editing software to use as I have already established a basic understanding of how to edit and alter videos, and can easily access the software both at home and in school. This means that I will have longer to focus on the editing of my music video than I would've if I had chosen to edit using PremierPro software which I would only have access to while in school.

Re-filming: DAY ONE (USABLE FOOTAGE)

This a compilation all the usable footage I got during my first day of filming with my new actress:

Digipak Questionnaire Results

These are the results that I received from my target audience in response to my Digipak questionnaire:

What imagery would you expect to find on a digipak for an indie/alternative album?

What information do you look for when purchasing an album?

What kind of colour schemed you feel fits the genre of indie/alternative?

Which would you prefer?

How many tracks would you expect to appear on an album?

I allowed the people to write instead of select their preference here and the general consensus was that they would expect to find 10-12 songs in an album.

Equipment: Update

I decided to make a few changes to the type of equipment I will use to continue shooting my music video after reviewing the footage from my first day of filming and will now be using the camera on my iPhone 6 for the rest of the filming days. This is because I notice some issues with the footage I filmed using the canon video camera; some of the footage was compromised due to a smudge on the lens that I hadn’t noticed on location even whilst reviewing the footage during the filming process. I have deduced that this is because the quality of the viewfinder on the camera and size of it meant that I wasn’t able to see the footage I had got in full definition and did not notice the smudges until I imported the files to my laptop and went to edit it. Another problem with using the video camera is that I need a tripod to stabilise the shots and this proved to be difficult as my video involves a lot of travelling and movement from place to place to get all of the footage I need; this inconvenience will be easily solved by using my phone and a selfie-stick as a makeshift tripod.

The iPhone 6 has an 8MP camera and autofocus which will allow me to shoot high quality and clarity footage which will help me to create a professional media product. The camera app on the iPhone 6 also has options to change the light exposure on footage, which will mean I will be able to brighten any footage that may seem too dark on set as I am filming. There is also an option to film in slow motion which will mean I will be able to experiment with such features on location and make any adjustments to the filming (such as prop/actress placement) on set which may mean there is less of a chance of me having to re-film such sections. There is an option to download the editing software I plan to use (iMovie) to my phone which will mean that I will even be able to edit footage I have during filming to see if the clips work together and change my ideas right there and then if they do not to save time and work proactively.

Costume

I allowed my actress to choose her costume from her own wardrobe after sending her my costume mood board and footage from the filming with my previous actress for her to reference so that she was aware of the vision I had. My actress wore a tanned knitted jumper, washed out ripped blue jeans and black combat boots.

This wardrobe choice fit in very well with my vision for my actress as it fulfilled the indie/autumn aesthetic that I wanted to create and allowed to blend with her environment making her seem more at one with nature and herself. This works as I want my music video to show the actress stripped back to who she is at her core and doing this by leaving the fate of her past for nature to decided.

New Filming Locations

As I decided that when re-filmimg my video I would change certain aspects of the introduction I had to explore and use new filming locations. These are the locations that I used and why I chose to feature them in my video:

I decided to use this location as I wanted to show shots of my actress travelling with the radio and baseball bat and radio before its destruction to show a build up for her eventual outbreak. I like this shot composition as I feel like the environment interacts well with my actress. For example, the glare of the sunlight on the camera contrasts with her aggressive attitude but also reflects and enhances the songs happy side and the peace that my character will find.

I decided to use this alleyway as the background for the radio smashing scene as I liked the naturalness of it. The autumnal leaving lies on the ground and green surrounding the character again allows the earthy theme and colour scheme of my video to continue. This background also proved to be very effective as we see the destruction of the falsities of the media and rawness of nature blend together.

I chose this location as I thought that it created a dynamic shot composition. The bushes frame my actress in a way that carries connotations of entrapment yet the field in the background shows the possibility of a better and freer tomorrow which is a message that I really want my video to convey.

I, again, chose this location because of it's natural atmosphere and environment. This was also a very useful environment as the field was large enough that I could get some long shot clips of my actress dancing. The trees nearby also created a very interesting and organic background for some further lip-syncing and dancing for my actress.

Makeup

I wanted to maintain a very natural look in relation to my actress's makeup so used very little in terms of products to create this look. This makeup look consists of a very natural foundation base, minimal contouring, winged eyeliner, mascara and a soft brown eye shadow.

I think this look is effective as it sustains the earthy and raw atmosphere of my video that my narrative tries to encompass.

These are the products used to create this makeup look:
